Hi all! We're now entering the final stages of the player of the year race and things are pretty hot. The winner after WNM on 11/08 will receive a trophy for their efforts but we won't be organising a top 8 anything because it looks like it will be hard to get all 8 people in one place. Currently the top 8 is:
46 - Andy Devine
44 - Rob Catton
43 - Mick Edwards
38 - John Ingham
33 - Andy Edwards, Chris Vincent
29 - Rob Wagner, Andy Bodle
with Steve Tyson, Stephen Porritt and Andy Pemberton all snapping on the heels. Mick has left university so is unlikely to get any more points but Rob and Andy are definitely going to make a close race. My excuse is that I only played 7 WNMs since December (but I won 4 of those), so I'll try to make Pro Level 2 and then I can play in every event next year :D. Anyway, the winner will receive their trophy at nats but no more updates to the online spreadsheet will be made until then to keep it exciting.

Player of the Year Race Update 04/05/10
By Wagz
Hi all, it's been a long while since the last one but the blog is on a slow period so it seems like a perfect time for a player of the year race update!
35 points - Andy Devine
33 points - Andy Edwards
31 points - Mick Edwards
28 points - Rob Catton and John Ingham
23 points - Andy Bodle
22 points - Steve Tyson and Chris Vincent
21 points - Rob Wagner
19 points - Mark Hammond
Hotting up towards the top of the tables but Andy Edwards has gone away for at least a month, Andy Devine says he probably doesn't want to draft Rise, Mick leaves Uni for the summer and I'm in the middle of a period of not playing to protect my rating (1 more month of abstinence). With that kind of overhaul is there room for someone to sneak in the Leed (sic)? Rob Catton has been making good moves in recent months and Steve Tyson had a good month getting some Bloodbraid Elves.
The race finishes with Nationals, so still plenty of time to get in. Not quite sure what to do with the results - top 8 draft perhaps? We'll see nearer the time.

Player of the Year Race Update 03/12/09
By Wagz
Hi all, just a quick entry today. The player of the year race is continuing but I am not sure when it should end. Should it end with the calendar year or with Great British Nats (since that is when this started)? Votes in the comments please, I'm leaning towards Nats at the moment. The entirety of the race is linked and updated here but a quick glance gives our top 5:
16 points - Mick and Andy Edwards
13 points - Andy Devine
11 points - John Ingham
10 points - Rob Wagner
So, it looks like Rob Edwards is no longer the name to have, but has been replaced with Edward Andrews or something. We have changed the prize structure of drafts now to 3-2-2-1, eliminating the appeal of IDing the finals which should help shake up the player of the year points too. Thanks for reading,
Rob.
p.s. Is it just me, or does Mick always stand on the left and Andy on the right? They're like Ant & Dec or Jedward. Mandy much?

Player of the Year Race
By Wagz
Since taking over the running of WNM I have had easy access to the standings at the end of the night. Armed with this information, I took it upon myself to make up a Player of the Year Race. Each WNM I will give points to the top-placed players and sum them over the weeks. The winner gets points equal to the number of rounds (each pod is counted separately in draft) and then 1 point less is awarded to the next player, and so on until we reach 0 points. So, the results from the last 7 weeks are:
12pts - Mick Edwards
8pts - Andy Edwards
7pts - Rob Catton & John Ingham
6pts - Rob Wagner
This is still not that much information so good luck to all players with the rest of the year - still 2 months of results to collect!
